RETRO – 1965 to 1980

In my world, these paintings were a response to the seriously exciting but traumatic and unsettling times of the 60’s & 70’s. Americana, Beatles, Stones & Dylan , Teenage fashions, Mods & Rockers and the Space Race were all exciting and uplifting. But there was also the fear and worry of the new Cold War – Cuba and nuclear weapons, inflation, social changes plus major industrial unrest and the 3 day working week. As a husband and father I was concerned about the future and tried to present these feelings onto canvas.
